STEM building challenges for preschool, pre-k, kindergarten, and first grade. Simple, easy to implement STEM activities even if you have a small classroom.

STEM gives students the opportunity to be creative, problem solve, develop math concepts, develop eye hand coordination, develop fine motor (if the materials are small), and develop inquiry skills. STEM can occur all over the classroom not just in the science center. In my classroom, I utilize the blocks center for STEM as well as my discovery center (my science center). Because when students are building, they are engineers planning, designing, and creating amazing things!

How to set up your dramatic play center in your preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten classroom.

The dramatic play center is a place students can go to pretend, imagine, and be creative. Students can pretend to be anyone and do anything! That is powerful for our little learners. It is a place that promotes high level thinking, problem solving, turn taking, and is rich in vocabulary. Students can learn and develop skills in all learning domains (language, literacy, math, science, social studies, fine motor, gross motor, and social skills) through pretend play. It is an amazing place in your classroom if you are intentional with the materials and experiences you plan and set up for your students. Every year our dramatic play center is a home the first month of school and the last month of school. It is something every child can relate to and can enjoy.

Pizza themed math, literacy, blocks, STEM, fine motor, art, and sensory centers for preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten

Pizza is a fun theme to do in preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten. Kids LOVE pizza! Research tells us that kids learn and retain the most when they are interested and invested in what they are learning about. The group I have this year would order pizza everyday for lunch if their parents let them which told me pizza was a prefect theme for this group.  My pizza theme lasted about one month in my preschool classroom and we also did a shapes unit during the pizza theme as well. Shapes was the perfect math unit to teach during our pizza theme. There are shapes all over a pizza restaurant (toppings, slices, boxes, cups, sign, pans, etc.).
